Wesley Snipes has appealed his conviction for failing to file tax returns and his resulting 3 year prison sentence.
Now, the Orlando Sentinel reports, while his appeal is pending, he wants to travel to Namibia and Italy to make two new films:
Federal prosecutors oppose a request by Orlando-born actor Wesley Snipes to leave the country again to make movies, saying he violated the court’s trust by detouring to Dubai last year to attend “the party of the decade” in the United Arab Emirates, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Snipes, 46, who is appealing his conviction and three-year sentence on misdemeanor tax crimes, wants to travel first to Namibia next month to re-shoot scenes for the horror-western Gallowwalker and then to Torino, Italy, for three months to film Game of Death.
It seems crazy that a Judge would let a mega-rich guy like Snipes leave the country.
But what’s even nuttier is that the producers of the two films actually hired him.
Maybe he was already under contract when all this came down, but even then I would think there would be some kind of moral clause in his contract that would allow them to terminate it.
And it’s not like the dude is indispensable.
I mean is there anyone in the universe who has ever uttered the words,
“I can’t wait until the next Wesley Snipes movie comes out.”
Throw Fishburne or Denzel in there and lets move on for Chrissake.
